Do you know how sand becomes glass? How does the color of glass come from?
The ancient Egyptians were the earliest glass manufacturers in the world. Glass has been used in human life for more than 4,000 years. About 2,000 years ago, Syrian craftsmen invented the glass blowing technique. Glass bottle container made by blowing air. The main component of most glass in life is sand.
Sand is composed of silicon dioxide. It is one of the most common minerals in the world. The melting point of silicon dioxide is 1700 degrees. During the production process, it must be injected into the sand. Soda lowers the melting point of silica, and then the melting point of sand drops to 850 degrees, which is easier to handle. This causes the glass to dissolve in water. Because silica is soluble in water, lime and calcium carbonate are added to solve this problem and make durable glass. Because glass is a mixture, the conversion of solids and liquids with different melting and boiling points is processed at a certain temperature. During the cooling process, various shapes and colors can be created through blow molding and modeling. Most of the glass is made of soda lime glass, which is the basic component of glass. Among them, transition metals also add various colors to the glass.
